Black Pear’s departing Java Software Engineer
Oli Wilkie, knew what Black Pear is about. Though the team is sad to see one of its own fly the nest this autumn, we can find solace in the knowledge that a bright future lays ahead for him. In between travelling the world and jetting off for his new career in the States, Oli had time for a quick chat to reflect on his time with us.
Oli grew up in Worcestershire where our CEO, David and our Interface Designer, Will, both hail from. Whilst at school Oli and Will rowed together in the 1st VIII, most notably with a standout performance at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2008, making it to the quarterfinals of The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup.
On leaving school, Oli attended Imperial College London to study Computing for four years. Here he gained a number of impressive work placements in a range of companies that used similar technologies to Black Pear. So when his student days came to an end naturally Black Pear was more than happy to snap up Oli who, by this point, was fast racking up a first-rate CV.
In his short time with Black Pear, Oli made a lasting impression with his eye for detail and sheer technical ability. Always keen to learn, Oli believes,
Oli was working predominantly with a team in Moorfields Eye Hospital on an interoperability toolkit for the open-source web-based Electronic Patient Records (EPR) system. Here he consistently stood out, but most importantly Oli quickly grasped what Black Pear values most. Fitting in well with the team from the start, Oli looks back and recounts,
